Our work

Renovating homes. Building hope.

We work with local people to make existing homes beautiful, safe and comfortable places to grow.

What we’re doing now

Help the Phoenix House Rise Again!

From the ashes of the past, a new beginning is taking shape! Habitat for Humanity of McDonough County is bringing new life to the Phoenix House, a home being stripped down to its bones and rebuilt with hope, hard work, and the generosity of our community. Every donation, large or small, helps transform this house into a safe welcoming home and gives it a second chance to shine. Be part of the transformation.

Donate today and help the Phoenix House rise again!

Habitat home renovation

Why renovation?

McDonough County has houses with good bones that need care. We buy them, renovate them, and sell them at a great interest rate to families who qualify.

Renovating homes:

  • preserves the local atmosphere and history,
  • beautifies neighborhoods,
  • makes new neighbors,
  • makes use of homes that just need some love and care,
  • and creates affordable homeownership opportunities in half the time.

Volunteer

Join our community.

You don’t have to be a carpenter. There are many ways to help a Habitat project move forward.

Habitat volunteers working together

How to volunteer

Hammer nails, hook up pipes and sweep away your troubles. Is tearing down walls good for your soul? Is feeding folks your love language?

There’s a place for you here. Tell us what you enjoy doing, and we’ll help you find a way to pitch in.

Tell us how you’d like to help

Any age. Any skill level.

Bring your knowledge, your enthusiasm or simply a willingness to help. We’ll find a place for you.

Not a builder? Perfect.

Feed a crew. Take photos. Organize supplies. Make calls. Share a professional skill. There are plenty of ways to help build a home without picking up a power tool.
